Industrial safety is the constant and great challenge within the plants of the automotive and manufacturing sector. The concern ranges from maintaining an optimal production pace to ensuring that each operator returns home safe and sound at the end of the day. Maintaining industrial safety and hygiene deploys a series of challenges, here we tell you what they are and how to face them:

1. Speed vs Security: The frenetic pace of production, especially in the automotive sector, can jeopardize safety measures. According to data from the International Labour Organization, every 15 seconds, 115 workers have an accident at work, and 2.02 million people die each year due to work-related diseases.

2. Constant training: With technology advancing by leaps and bounds, machines and processes evolve. This implies that training must be continuous. Lack of proper training can lead to human error with catastrophic consequences.

3. Confined spaces and work at height: These are two of the most dangerous environments. The Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) It estimates that confined spaces cause around 200 deaths per year in workplaces, and in turn, 60% of those deaths affect rescuers.

4. Culture of prevention: Establishing a culture where safety is a priority is not an easy task. Often, the pressure to meet quotas and ignorance can lead to risky behaviors.

5. Regulatory update: Regulations change and adapt to new scenarios. Being current and ensuring compliance not only avoids penalties but protects workers.

So how do you meet these challenges?

1. Investment in technology:

Integrating more modern equipment and advanced technologies such as sensors, IoT and data analytics can reduce the risk of accidents.

Use technological innovations to create a safer and more efficient work environment.

2. Continuous training: Initial training is not enough

Offering comprehensive training programs must be consistent and adapt to changes in safety for all employees, regardless of level or role.

Incorporate training in industrial safety in the entry of new employees.

3. Encourage communication:

Establishing open communication channels so that workers can report their concerns or report unsafe situations without fear of retaliation would help to detect and correct risks.

Actively involve employees in the development and implementation of security measures, encouraging their participation and contributions.

The automotive and manufacturing sector faces the challenge of ensuring safe operations in an environment of rapid evolution and high demand. However, with investment, training and, above all, putting people at the center of the equation, it is possible to overcome these challenges and ensure a safer and more resilient industry.
